Namahage

Namahage  is a Japanese ritual which is observed throughout Oga Peninsula, Akita Prefecture in northern Honshū, Japan. It is said to have originated as a ritual for cleansing people's souls. The infamous Namahage; where an annual ritual takes place on the 31st of December. Dozens of young single men (traditionally) from various regions in Akita Prefecture, Japan dress like the Namahage demon. Each portrayer adorns an eerie demon mask (various colors depending on region), a straw raincoat and waistband and carries a scary tool made of wood depicting a knife/stick/ various weapon; and a pail. They re-enact the folklore dressed as these demons and march around the village in hopes of scaring prepubescent kids into total parental submission. Going door-to-door, they sweep the village threatening to drag any spoiled disobedient children. As the story goes, a child's lazy spirit (even lazy adults) that is disobedient is dragged into the snow covered mountains away from their parents. Knowing the story very well, upon barging into each home, the young children is immediately frightened by loud roars as they are chased, kids typically scream with agony and fear. This prompts parents to sooth their kids worries of being taken away by the Namahage, letting them know that they’ve been behaving.
The Namahage then encourage the children to keep studying and working hard, as a result the kids make a promise, or a New Year’s resolution to behave. Namahage's carry a notebook about each particular person recording that person's behavior from that year. The Namahage deities are then received by the head of the family in formal dress, who offers sake and food. Upon appeasement by the warm hospitality of the householder (usually they are given sake), they take leave of that house, promising that the family will be blessed with good health, a large catch and a rich crop in the New Year, and then set off to visit the next home.

Sushi has become a commonplace term today.

Do you know the origins of sushi?

Sushi is a Japanese food consisting of cooked vinegar rice combined with other ingredients, usually raw fish or other seafood.
All sushi has a base of specially prepared rice, complemented with other ingredients.

The original type of sushi, known today was first developed in South-east Asia, and spread to south China before introduction to Japan .The term sushi comes from an old grammatical form no longer used in other contexts; literally, sushi means "sour-tasting". The oldest form of sushi in Japan, narezushi, still very closely resembles this process, wherein fish is fermented by being wrapped in soured fermenting rice. The fish proteins break down via fermentation into its constituent amino acids. This results in a sour taste and also one of the five basic tastes, called umami in Japanese. In Japan, narezushi evolved into oshizushi and ultimately Edomae nigirizushi, which is what the world today knows as "sushi".

Although Doraemon can hear perfectly well, he has no ears:his robotic ears were eaten by some mice, giving him a phobia of the mice. The only main female character is Shizuka Minamoto, who is a friend of Nobita. Shizuka is intelligent and is Nobita's good friend. Nobita's main friends and/or rivals include Takeshi (nicknamed 'Gian', from ), a  bully, and Suneo, a wealthy but cunning and cheeky brat. There are also  characters, such as Dekisugi, his school  and Doraemon's  sister, Dorami.
Unfortunately when in possession of the gadget, Nobita usually gets into more trouble than before, despite Doraemon's best intentions and warnings. Sometimes, Nobita's friends (usually Suneo or Gian) steal Doraemon's gadgets and end up misusing them.
Doraemon is a cultural phenomenon in Japan and can be seen in many places. In March 2008, Japan's Foreign Ministry appointed Doraemon as the nation's first "anime ambassador.Ministry spokesman explained the novel decision as an attempt to help people in other countries to understand Japanese anime better and to deepen their interest in Japanese culture."

Red bean pancakes, known in Japan as "dora-yaki" and "Hon Do Po Bin" in China, are crepe-like sweet pancakes that are popular all over Asia. The pancakes are made of common ingredients: light wheat flour, sugar, oil, and eggs. The filling is made with red bean paste, made from Azuki beans. A typical preparation involves placing some red bean paste on each cooked pancake and then rolling it up into a cylinder shape before serving. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Dorayaki is a type of Japanese confection which consists of two small pancake-like patties made from castella wrapped around a filling of sweet red bean paste.Legend has it that the first Dorayaki were made when a samurai named Benkei forgot his gong (dora) upon leaving a farmer’s home where he was hiding and the farmer subsequently used the gong to fry the pancakes, thus the name Dorayaki.
The Japanese cartoon  and anime character Doraemon loves dorayaki, and it has been a plot device several times throughout the series. This is a kind of pun, though his name comes not from "dorayaki" but from the word "doraneko" (stray cat). Since 2000, the company Bunmeido has been selling a limited version of dorayaki called Doraemon Dorayaki every year around March and September.
